My favourite place

After work I’m repeatedly drawn to the Utoquai. Only a few steps from the throng of Stadelhofen and Bellevue, this is where the hustle and bustle of downtown Zurich meets the ease of those seeking to relax by the water. The place is by no means an insider tip, so you’ll find the most diverse mix of people from all over the world on the lake promenade. While some people might find that off-putting, I love the colourful mix. From the foreign tourist with a chronic need to feed the ducks to the busker playing the accordion with vocal interludes of questionable quality, you’ll meet all sorts here. Thanks to this mix of people, over the years I’ve been blessed with many interesting and often curious encounters and observations at Utoquai, many of which still make me smile today.

When you’ve had enough of the toing and froing on land, you can simply turn your back on it and, with a view of the ducks passing by, immerse yourself fully in conversation with your companion or your own thoughts while the waves lap away under your feet. The easy accessibility makes the Utoquai the perfect place for a cosy after-work beer at a spontaneous reunion with old friends. And should you ever need to remedy an empty stomach or escape a sudden downpour, thanks to the great location you’ll find excellent restaurants just a few steps away.

My story

In early 2022 I moved to the Netherlands for a semester to complete the final modules of my bachelor’s at the University of Amsterdam. During my studies in communication science and business administration at the University of Zurich, I had already had the opportunity to gain my first professional communications experience at open up. Alongside that I spent three years working in the marketing department of a start-up.

Since my return I’ve been looking after clients in financial services, IT, energy and tourism on behalf of open up.
