Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn operates on the route network from the Matter Valley via Visp, Brig and Goms to the Ursern Valley and Surselva. More than six million passengers a year use the service between Göschenen/Disentis and Zermatt.

In 2016 the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn celebrated the 125-year anniversary of the Visp-Zermatt line. To mark the occasion there was an eight-page special supplement to the Walliser Boten newspaper featuring a look back into the long history of the line.
