Happiness lies in a simple gesture
This year’s New Year’s greeting to our clients, business partners, and friends is both a symbol of good fortune and a true eye-catcher. Maneki-neko — literally «beckoning cats» — are popular lucky charms in East Asia and, even here, can be seen tirelessly waving at us in many places.
Speaking of eye-catchers, our work constantly reminds us how much impact lies in the right kind of «waving». Whether through stories that move us, moments that create lasting memories, or signposts that offer orientation — visually and emotionally resonant communication connects and inspires. The right kind of wave means more than simply being seen. Like a Maneki-neko, raising its paw in an inviting gesture, we set signals that guide attention in the desired direction and invite people to engage with a story or a message.
And this is not something we started yesterday. 2026 will be a special year for us, as it marks exactly a quarter of a century since open up has united communication consulting and brand positioning with journalistic storytelling.
With a friendly wave, we thank everyone we have had the privilege to accompany — and continue to accompany — on their journey, for their trust, collaboration, and friendship. We wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.
As an agency, we maintain close relationships with creative talents from the worlds of film and photography. The concept and animation for the start of the year were created by artist, photographer, and graphic designer Tamara Janes, based in Bern. She blends photography with ideas inspired by everyday life, capturing surreal situations, illusions, dreams, and unusual found objects, and recontextualising them to create new works with depth and meaning.
