Favourite place
My favourite stroll through Zurich takes me past Schipfe. Located in the heart of the city, this district radiates a special sense of calm for me because of its proximity to the water. Provided that there are blue skies and sunshine to brighten up the scenery, that is. When storms roll in, you’ll hear the Limmat river roaring past, putting the water’s immense strength on full display. The river strikes me as inspirational, both in sunny and in stormy weather – at times gentle, at other times rousing. This kind of diversity is something I see in communication, and it delights me anew every single time.
Another interesting titbit is how the place got its name. “Schipfe” comes from the German word “schupfen”, which means “to push”. And it was here, in fact, that boats used to be pushed into the waters of the Limmat. Nowadays, I consider this place to be the starting point for other kinds of journeys: This is where I “push” my thoughts into new currents and let myself drift along on a river of ideas.
Right next to the alley, under the arcades by the river, you’ll see a cobblestone square with a fountain. This is where I’ll often pause for a moment, listen to the splashing of the fountain and watch the people passing by. Businesspeople hurry towards the main station, while tourists from all over the world stop to admire the clear, clean water in the river. How differently we all perceive this place! Blurred from the view of anybody in a hurry, crystal clear in a traveller’s eye – and full of stories for me as an observer.

Career
I earned a degree in communication from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur. Both during and after my studies, I gained experience in corporate communications and later worked in marketing for the Swiss tourism industry in London.
