My favourite place

What could be finer than a really good espresso and time to relax and read a long article? I often enjoy a really good espresso in Certo, the Italian restaurant close to our office. There you get to see all sorts of people come and go, a mixture of folk from the central business district and Kreis 4, one of the most varied and exciting districts in the city. It’s that, plus the relaxed Italian-style atmosphere, that keep me going back so regularly. I’m often with clients, friends, partners and journalists, but sometimes alone to read the newspaper in peace.

Maybe it’s behind the times to have a printed newspaper in your hand. Of course I also read e-papers and access media via apps, and I’m aware that paper might look slightly old-fashioned. But for my generation it still symbolises the newspaper. It’s also emblematic of the great changes sweeping the media landscape. What concerns me is the disappearance of individual media, the merging of editorial teams, and individuals buying up a whole bunch of titles and readers. Because I’m convinced it’s important to have media diversity and independent journalists, I hope that more people and companies will be prepared to pay money and buy subscriptions again in return for good articles. That will make editors and journalists more independent of advertising revenues.

My story

Besides heading the agency with Melanie, I’m primarily in charge of accounts in financial services, telecoms and retail. My specialities are strategic communications advice, media relations, crisis communications and content creation. Before founding open up back in 2001, I was press spokesman at a big bank and headed its corporate publishing and event PR team. My studies took me to the universities of Bern, Zaragosa and Maryland, where I studied economics and political science.
