open up provides communications support to Täsch-Zermatt tunnel project
The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn is planning to build a new rail tunnel designed to provide a safe public transport connection to Zermatt and extend its services. The Zurich agency open up is providing the project with communications support and is responsible for branding.
The railway line between Täsch and Zermatt is of great importance for the region but is vulnerable to weather events owing to its exposed location. To ensure uninterrupted access to Zermatt going forward, the railway line is to be protected from environmental influences. To achieve this goal, a new railway tunnel is planned between Täsch and Zermatt. The tunnel will also enable the company to augment its services. In the future, trains will run every quarter of an hour between Täsch and Zermatt and every half hour between Visp and Zermatt.
The planned railway tunnel is part of the federal government’s STEP expansion step 2035 programme and is financed by the Federal Office of Transport. It is due to go into service in 2035. The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway is responsible for delivery of the project, which is currently in the preliminary phase.
The Zurich agency open up was invited to pitch, and having prevailed is now responsible for communications support until the start of construction in 2028. This includes developing and managing the communications concept, coordinating content and developing a branding scheme including integration with the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway’s corporate design.
